Learn how you can scale your connectivity services with JBIX.
Public Peering
When your network is connected into the JBIX switching fabric, the service that is immediately available to you is the Public Peering. The Public Peering allows you to peer with all the networks (ISP, Content Providers, Carriers, Universities) connected to the shared fabric using a dedicated IP address assigned to your network by JBIX. You do not need to have a separate physical connectivity to each of the peers. The IX switching fabric will bridge your network to all the networks connected in the same switching fabric as soon as you have enabled BGP peering with them. Through Public Peering, your cost per peer is drastically lowered and managing multiple peers are much more simplified
Route Server and Multi-lateral Peering
If you are newly-joint and have not established peering contact with other network peers, you may take advantage of the JBIX Route Server to learn the routes or prefixes which are available to you without initiating direct peering with each of the peers (Multi-lateral Peering). Please take note that learning routes/prefixes via the Route Server is only a temporary solution, for optimal routing performance, you are still encouraged to initiate a formal request of peering to the network contact which you wish to peer with and subsequently setup a bilateral peering with them.
Private Peering
Private peering over JBIX shared platform allows two networks to connect over a dedicated virtual LAN across the switching fabric. Using Private Peering, both networks can exchange traffic over a dedicated private channel, separated from the peers which are visible in the Public Peering.
The networks may also wish to Private-Peer through direct port connection within the Open DC datacentre where JBIX is located. In this case, they may commission a fiber or copper cross connect (directly with Open DC) within the datacentre to interconnect their network equipment and subsequently bring up the BGP peering between them. JBIX does not involve in Private Peering over dedicated port between two networks.
Benefits
Remote Peering
For networks which currently do not have presence in Johor Bahru or do not wish to collocate equipment in Open DC, they may consider the option of Remote Peering. With remote peering, the network operators can connect to JBIX’s remote peering nodes located in popular locations to access to JBIX. The Remote Peering nodes have layer 2 connectivity (JBIX-Connect service) back to JBIX switching fabric which the network operator need to subscribe in order to connect to JBIX.
Typically, the network operator who wish to connect to JBIX via JBIX remote peering will have to cover the following cost:
- JBIX Port charge
- JBIX-Connect layer 2 service charge (commensurate with the subscribed bandwidth)
JBIX Remote Peering node is currently located at these locations:
- CJ1 Datacenter, Cyberjaya
- AIMS Datacenter
- Equinix SG1 Datacenter
